Always happy to share some encouraging news.
A story from my recently-released collection, DRAGONFLIES AND THE GREAT BLUE HERON, has been named the winner of a recent competition. The story is called ‘Their Lucky Day’ and is the second story in the collection.
The win came in a recent competition sponsored by New York Editor Lois W. Stern, publisher of the Tales2Inspire collections which highlights stories of the week.

‘Their Lucky Day’ is the story of a man touring the United States hoping to distract himself from his grief over the recent loss of his wife of 38 years to cancer. His 8,000-mile (13,000-kilometer) journey takes him from Calgary through Kansas City to Orlando and on to New Orleans, which at the time was recovering from Hurricane Katrina. His plan was to travel on to visit the west coast then drive north back to Canada.
But before leaving New Orleans he met an elderly couple evacuated months earlier from their home because of the hurricane. Their wish was to return to the family home where the terminally-ill elderly lady wanted to pass her few remaining days. It did not look promising.
Their plight and the outcome he helped them achieve changed the traveller’s outlook and bolster his resolve to get on with his life.
No spoiler here: you’ll have to check out the rest of the story on your own.
